4XI Annual Report - 2011
TVL Div 8B: Played 13 Won 6 Lost 5 Drew 2.
The 2011 season was a mixed bag really for the 4th XI. Poor availability and poor performances at the start of the season left us struggling at the wrong end of the table, but as availabilty improved along with performances we went on an unbeaten run which saw us finish 3rd, 40 points ahead of 4th place and 15 behind Wycombe Dragons with whom our penultimate game was cancelled due to rain, which was a great shame as it promised to be a cracker.
As always our policy was to give as much exposure to adult cricket to our colts as possible and they did extremely well.
Dan Ogden opened in every game scoring 265 runs including two half centuries. Ryan Finch once again played every game taking 16 wickets including a match winning 5-38 against Hayes and there were notable performances from Josh Brazier, Calum Woodcock, Rory Duncan, Sam Beacham and Howard Lippiatt.
Our side was much changed week on week and i would like to thank everyone who played this season especially those who were called upon at short notice and those who had not played for a number of years.
Of the more senior players Craig Collett scored 443 runs including two centuries and Simon Ogden scored 267 runs. Craig Saunders improved every week and his 60 against Princes Risborough was made from 23 balls and was some of the cleanest hard hitting you will ever see. Howard Lippiatt made a very classy 50 in the same game.
All the senior players chipped in at some point including Ryan Collett smashing a brisk 45 as we chased down 254 at Farnham Common.
As with last season Simon Ogden was our leading wicket taker with 30 wickets including 8-18 when we bowled out Princes Risborough to claim 25 points for the second week running in August. Sam Beacham and Daniel Davies also bowled well and promise much for the future.
It was a disjointed season with some bad weather, Amersham III's dropping out of the league and some other teams failing to raise a side. However it was a very enjoyable season and i would like to think that all those who played also enjoyed themselves and felt they were given an opportunity at some stage. I would especially like to thank Simon Ogden for skippering in my absence and for his help and advice on and off the field along with Paul Caswell who's words of wise are always welcome.
The success of the 4th XI is based on the success of the younger players who move on up through the teams and become good players and also good people, we are looking for some of our younger players to move on next season and to introduce another 4/5 colts to adult cricket.
Finally a big thank you to Steve and Tracey for the teas and to Steve for helping out on Saturdays and help with locating players, it is much appreciated. Thank you to Lyn Andrews for scoring and being a fantastic supporter. Lastly thanks to Paul Collett for all his help with finding players he does a great job.
I would also like to thank all our sponsors for the season and Pen and Ink Ltd for producing the matchday programmes.
Looking forward to next season already.
Craig Collett (4th XI Captain 2011)
