Harefield Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Finchampstead on Sat 31 Jul 2010 at 11.30am
Harefield Cricket Club Won by 168 runs

Match report Harefield turned up for perhaps their biggest game of the season to date having undergone a week of intense preparation; which included, for some, the grooving of their forward defence on the dance floors of Watford and for others the more conventional preparation of a lot of match time during cricket week!
The skipper had not undergone such intense preparation on his coin tossing skills and once again we lost the toss, to be put in on a pitch that was offering some early movement
This proved to be a blessing in disguise as, although we had a few hiccups before lunch – most notably the chairman’s near heart attack as he watched Syke try and deposit his second ball into the houses despite it being the last over before the break – James Hammerton compiled a classy 70, before being given out, and we reached lunch in the strong position of 130 odd for 3, thanks mainly to the impressive partnership between Akkers and James
After tucking into another fantastic lunch, we pressed on as Akkers and Syke both passed 50 and these, along with a rapid 30 not out from Pete Lynch allowed us to set the imposing total of 266-7 from our 60 overs.
We started equally well with the ball as Doug removed their main man, removing his middle pole after a clever sequence of bowling. This was the cue for Finchamstead’s batsmen to start to bore us to death, much to the frustration of Scotty and the slip cordon, who decided that if they had to bat like that then bbqing their kit would be an attractive option, a suggestion which did not go down so well with the oppo’s batsmen!
Whilst it was not an exciting partnership that followed, it was one that looked like it was on the way to securing a draw, but a wicket from the skipper in the last 5 minutes before tea opened up an end for the Hares to attack in the post tea session
What followed tea was quite remarkable as Finchamstead collapsed from 73-2 at tea to 98 all out. The skipper bowled unchanged for 9.3 overs to take 7-16 and he was well supported by Dale (2-23 off 14) along with some brilliant close catching, especially from Hammerton, who took another two to add to his impressive record under the lid. A special mention here must go to Scotty who proved to the number four batsman that he did indeed add something with a ridiculously sharp stumping.
Great scenes followed this comprehensive victory, which takes the Hares into 5th place in the league, as the side consumed many jugs of Australia’s finest lager and then hit our favourite 80s bar
