Harefield Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Gerrards Cross on Sat 21 Aug 2010 at 11am
Harefield Cricket Club Won by 1 Wicket

Match report Harefield CC 1st XI- 175-9 (25 points) beat Gerrards Cross CC 1st XI- 171-10

With victory on Saturday, Harefield have secured their status as one of the highest ranked club sides in the area, by sealing their place in the Home Counties Cricket League for next season. Stand in captain Mluleki Nkala won the toss, and decided to bowl first, a decision that proved to be inspired when opening bowler Doug King removed Buckinghamshire batsman Hamza Taj with the first ball of the game. Gerrards Cross’ other opener Ian Cockbain (66) showed why he is leading run scorer in the league with a classy half century, but from here onwards though, it was the Nkala show as he finished with 6-58 from his 18 overs including taking the last 3 wickets without conceding a run. Harefield then took the field with plenty of time to chase down their target of 172, and with openers James Hammerton (29) and Matt Lench (12) put on 50 for the first wicket, victory looked inevitable. However, 51 for 0 became 52 for 3 and Harefield were struggling. Wickets continued to tumble, until Harefield number 8 Luc Baldwin came to the crease and turned the game on its head, scoring 46 not out from just 43 balls. A game changing partnership with King brought Harefield right back in, and finally Baldwin and Dale Morris finished off the game with just one wicket to spare.
