Harefield Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report Well done the Dinkies

2’s Go Top
The 2’s were full of confidence going into the clash with fellow promotion chasing British Airways on the back of a string of good results. Lappers skilfully won the toss and facing another scorching Harefield day asked BA to field. However things got off to less than convincing start. A good opening spell from the BA bowlers along with some assistance from the pitch left the 2’s toiling at 40-4. Smithy coming in at 6 had other ideas had and batted with fantastic skill and determination scoring an invaluable 75 which avoided an otherwise embarrassing total. It was an even better knock considering he managed to hurt his knee which reduced his top speed to little more that a quick walk. A suitable runner was found in Tom Shiel who filled the role perfectly. The talk at tea concluded that 168 was a below par score but it was certainly competitive and gave something for our bowlers to bowl to.
The old ball was taken and handed to George who was brimming with confidence following his 6-fer the previous week and 2nd team debutant Scotty. The BA batsman only seemed to be able to play one way and with Scotty and George bowling with plenty of F and G they couldn’t resist trying to hit the leather of it. However, it did seem for a while that it was not going to be our day as on four occasions the ball didn’t stick when going for a hard catches in the deep. Runs were still relatively easy to come by as the lighting fast boundaries meant that anything that beat the infield ran way for four (unless Tom Shiel was chasing it). The 2’s deserve credit for sticking to the task when at various points it looked as if BA would run away with it. Our luck though deservedly changed and the BA batsman did not who still seemed intent on trying to finish the game in the shortest amount of time. George and Scotty both finished with good figures and Dan Evans finished BA of with a great spell of aggressive bowling taking 3 wickets to win us the game. An honourable mention must also go to another 2’s debutant Simon Scott who did well behind the stumps taking a fantastic catch of Dan and getting a sharp stumping.
The 2’s now go top but there’s plenty of work to be done between now and the end of the season.
