Harefield Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Wokingham 3XI on Sat 28 Aug 2010 at 12.30pm
Harefield Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Hare today, gone tomorrow
Awoken on Sunday to hear that the News of the World had broken the biggest story in cricket, The Skip hurried to the local Londis only to discover the front page made no mention whatsoever of Harefield 3's promotion to Division 5. Slightly dismayed by this oversight, this author took solace in the fact that we are going up and going up in champions.

Shamelessly plagiarising the style of match report favoured by our 4th team brothers, we shall tell the story by each player's contribution:

C Jordaan - Bowled a key spell but was withdrawn to ensure he could still move after tea. 20 runs takes him above the Skip in the hunt for the batting trophy. Might find himself batting number 11 next week.

D Cokeley - bowled more overs in one spell than in the whole season thus far, kept up the chat in the way only he can. Last seen in traction.

R Petley - almost held catch of the season, but otherwise fielded exquisitely. Great energy but got the yips with bat and ball despite taking a key wicket in his 3 over stint. Bowled a no-ball which he insists was not financially incentivised. Proved that despite recent reports, he IS just an option.

J O'Hara - arriving in the 17th over meant no hostile spell from our fasty, a serious contender for Player of the Year though...needs a few runs or wickets next week to steal the show from the resident South Africans and Petters Snr.

G Morris - Man-of-the-match innings got us 1/3 of the way to the total single-handedly. Promised he won't be driving next week, have we ever seen him drunk?

R Evans - batted out several maidens, but at no stage seen taking orders to do so from third-party. The first week he didn't at any stage removed his cap from his head to hide his frustration in the field. A Brearley in the making or a Tavare through and through?

C Saunders - Fielded with his unique energy and held the important first chance. For the third time in a row, got a good ball early on.

M Petley - second name on the team-sheet, even injured and needing to get home for tea by 7pm. Saw the boys home again with the bat. Almost caught a catch.

P Caswell - batted, bowled and caught superbly. The 4s will miss him next year.

J Gouws - 5-51 shows what a warm-up (in jeans) can do. Mav would be proud.

G Simpson - a no-show

P Evans - former England schoolboy turned playing umpire. Stepped up to the plate when Simpson was located in a field in Reading. Worked well with his son at mid-off / on. Under-utilised number 10.

A personal thank you to all players, supporters and club officials who've made this season a) possible and b) enjoyable. Let's seal the season with a good game against Hayes next week and ready ourselves for a new challenge next year...

PS - League Dinner 22 October, who wants to collect the pennant with the Skip?
