Harefield Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Highgate on Sun 22 Aug 2010 at 12.30
Harefield Cricket Club Won by 9 Wickets

Match report Critics choke on meal for two at the bakery

Who would have guessed it, the Sunday team having two sober players the day after a night out with the clubs ‘uptown boys’. But it is in these conditions that the Academy have grown to thrive.
Harefield stared longingly into their captain’s eyes hoping for the signal to bat, instead the call for the bowlers to warm up, and batters to sulk was given. So, at a slightly later time than intended, nine players staggered and two walked out to complete their last Sunday fielding stint of the year. Gary Mahmadullah Evans (1-9) charged in and bowled a fiery opening spell, deserving of his 3 gullies and a slip. Steak Knife (1-21) bowled a variety of pies and crackers that even Linda Evans would be proud of. The superb bowling display continued with Tommorrow Day staying tight accompanied by spells from Morris Major and Morris Minor. The jewel in the Academies attack was priest Petley (Russ not Mark) as he turned out to be ‘More than just an option’!
That was it, as the academy bowled the oppo out for 145 and attacked tea as they had the ball for the previous 37.3 overs. Mahmadullah found ‘a new space in his heart’ for the Muslim faith as Ramadan fell directly over one of Tracie’s tea’s, and he hasn’t got round to converting fully yet.
Carrying on from the skippers previous inspired opening partnerships, by Greg he ‘did it again’, as Shiel (47) and the diesel powered Ridgeway (69*). Greg ‘Blew’ out of the blocks but was initially in the shadow of Shiel who made his runs off fewer than 30 balls. Shiel departed and so entered the Academy’s Middx U-19 batsmen to take second fiddle to the flourishing Ridgeway.
The team was seen home and not only to a win but to a ‘champagne supernova’ as league champions.
