Harefield Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Chiswick & Latymer 2nd XI on Sat 17 May 2014 at 13:00
Harefield Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report Seeing the longish grass, wettish outfield and greensih track the Harefield skipper chose to field first thinking that the pitch would dry our toward the the final quarter of the day.

Harefield opened up with Ross Marsh and Harry Sreekantaiah and C&L got off to a good start with Ross struggling with a sore ankle and muscle stiffness.
The game was pegged back with the introduction of the ever reliable Hannes Verway who accounted for the free scoring number 3 after a run out got the first opener.

Sej Ramniclal was then introduced to the fray and started with a full bunger that duly got another wicket. The Sej and Harry show accounted for 3 identical wickets and Sej added a fourth with a stumping at the end to take 4-66 from 17 overs. A superb spell from Burhan Mirza (2-29 from 11) at the other end and a tight fielding performance from everyone restricted C&L to an under par 204.

The chase was on and and Burhan got Harefield off to a good start, showing good shot selection until he fell to a superb diving catch at 1st slip. The rest of the top and middle order failed to show restraint against the C&L leg spin combination and wickets continued to fall despite the healthy run rate. The batsman will need to show much greater patience if we are going to chase down big totals this season.
A brief but still rapid scoring fightback came from Hannes and Harry at 7 & 8 but both fell cheaply and it was left to Sej at 9 and Ross at 10 to salvage some respect from the game when Harefield were 113-8. Both batted patiently and blocked the ball well and as time elapsed they started to feel comfortable at the crease. The bad balls started to be dispatched to all parts of the ground and Harefield were getting closer and closer to the target and were also well ahead of the run rate. Sej batted superbly and staked his claim for a place up the order whilst Ross blasted 5 sixes in between showing off his perfect forward defence.

With 7 needed for victory a rush of blood to the head saw Sej waft at a straight one and get bowled for 34. It was a fantastic innings which put Harefield in a match winning position. 14 year old Llewelyn Woodman walked to the crease either oblivious to the match pressure on non-plussed by it all and, along with Ross, saw them over the line to win by 1 wicket. Ross finishing on 51 not out.

A fantastic start to the season and something good to build on going into next week.

Man of the match was Sej Ramniclal for his 4 fer and match winning batting performance.
